Sumco to Double 300mm Wafer Production by 2009

Sumco, a silicon wafer joint venture between Mitsubishi Materials and Sumitomo, recently announced it plans to double monthly production capacity of 300mm-diameter wafers by April 2009 to 700,000 units. Starting in the current fiscal year, the company will invest a total of 130 billion Yen to make this increase happen, and it will expand its production facility in Imari, Saga Prefecture, Japan.
